Oatmeal cookies -Montessori style

One thing that children love is exploring and manipulating different materials. So, what a better way than letting children work and explore in the kitchen.  Enjoy with your children preparing one of our favorite recipes.

Oatmeal cookies with apple and carrot 



TIPS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER:

  • You can prepare in advance all ingredients measured out and ask your children to add them one by one for you.

  • Explain to your children that we need to take turns, and that everyone will have the opportunity to participate in adding ingredients.

  • Depending on the age of your children, you can invite them to peel the carrots and apples. They can grate them too.

  • This recipe doesn’t contain eggs or gluten, so they’re a great option for children with allergies.


INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup quick oats 

  • 1 cup whole wheat or gluten-free flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 cup grated carrot (3 small)

  • 1/2 cup grated apple (2 small)

  • 1 cup dry fruit (could be raisins, blueberries, etc.)

  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil (melted)

  • 1/3 cup honey 



INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 357 °F / 190 °C and prepare the baking sheet.

  2. Invite your children to mix up all the ingredients in a large bowl using a spoon. Then they can use clean hands to bring all ingredients completely together if needed.

  3. Portion out the amount of dough for each cookie, place them in the prepared baking sheet. 

  4. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. 

  5. Let cool on the baking sheet, serve and enjoy with your children.
